For the choir director. A Psalm of David. The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good. | 1For the choir director. Davidic. The fool says in his heart, "God does not exist." They are corrupt; they do vile deeds. There is no one who does good. |
The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God. | 2The LORD looks down from heaven on the human race to see if there is one who is wise, one who seeks God. |
They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one. | 3All have turned away; all alike have become corrupt. There is no one who does good, not even one. |
Do all the workers of wickedness not know, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call upon the Lord? | 4Will evildoers never understand? They consume My people as they consume bread; they do not call on the LORD. |
There they are in great dread, For God is with the righteous generation. | 5Then they will be filled with terror, for God is with those who are righteous. |
You would put to shame the counsel of the afflicted, But the LORD is his refuge. | 6You sinners frustrate the plans of the afflicted, but the LORD is his refuge. |
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores His captive people, Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad. | 7Oh, that Israel's deliverance would come from Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of His people, Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad. |
