A Song of Ascents. In my trouble I cried to the LORD, And He answered me. | 1A Song of degrees. In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me. |
Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, From a deceitful tongue. | 2Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue. |
What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, You deceitful tongue? | 3What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue? |
Sharp arrows of the warrior, With the burning coals of the broom tree. | 4Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper. |
Woe is me, for I sojourn in Meshech, For I dwell among the tents of Kedar! | 5Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar! |
Too long has my soul had its dwelling With those who hate peace. | 6My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace. |
I am for peace, but when I speak, They are for war. | 7I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war. |
