| 1A Psalm of David. To You, O LORD, I call; My rock, do not be deaf to me, For if You are silent to me, I will become like those who go down to the pit. | 1By David. To you, O LORD, I cry out! My protector, do not ignore me! If you do not respond to me, I will join those who are descending into the grave. |
| 2Hear the voice of my supplications when I cry to You for help, When I lift up my hands toward Your holy sanctuary. | 2Hear my plea for mercy when I cry out to you for help, when I lift my hands toward your holy temple! |
| 3Do not drag me away with the wicked And with those who work iniquity, Who speak peace with their neighbors, While evil is in their hearts. | 3Do not drag me away with evil men, with those who behave wickedly, who talk so friendly to their neighbors, while they plan to harm them! |
| 4Requite them according to their work and according to the evil of their practices; Requite them according to the deeds of their hands; Repay them their recompense. | 4Pay them back for their evil deeds! Pay them back for what they do! Punish them! |
| 5Because they do not regard the works of the LORD Nor the deeds of His hands, He will tear them down and not build them up. | 5For they do not understand the LORD's actions, or the way he carries out justice. The LORD will permanently demolish them. |
| 6Blessed be the LORD, Because He has heard the voice of my supplication. | 6The LORD deserves praise, for he has heard my plea for mercy! |
| 7The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him. | 7The LORD strengthens and protects me; I trust in him with all my heart. I am rescued and my heart is full of joy; I will sing to him in gratitude. |
| 8The LORD is their strength, And He is a saving defense to His anointed. | 8The LORD strengthens his people; he protects and delivers his chosen king. |
| 9Save Your people and bless Your inheritance; Be their shepherd also, and carry them forever. | 9Deliver your people! Empower the nation that belongs to you! Care for them like a shepherd and carry them in your arms at all times! |
