Jonah 2
NASB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995New Living Translation
1Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the stomach of the fish,1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from inside the fish.
2and he said, "I called out of my distress to the LORD, And He answered me. I cried for help from the depth of Sheol; You heard my voice.2He said, “I cried out to the LORD in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the land of the dead, and LORD, you heard me!
3"For You had cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the current engulfed me. All Your breakers and billows passed over me.3You threw me into the ocean depths, and I sank down to the heart of the sea. The mighty waters engulfed me; I was buried beneath your wild and stormy waves.
4"So I said, 'I have been expelled from Your sight. Nevertheless I will look again toward Your holy temple.'4Then I said, ‘O LORD, you have driven me from your presence. Yet I will look once more toward your holy Temple.’
5"Water encompassed me to the point of death. The great deep engulfed me, Weeds were wrapped around my head.5“I sank beneath the waves, and the waters closed over me. Seaweed wrapped itself around my head.
6"I descended to the roots of the mountains. The earth with its bars was around me forever, But You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.6I sank down to the very roots of the mountains. I was imprisoned in the earth, whose gates lock shut forever. But you, O LORD my God, snatched me from the jaws of death!
7"While I was fainting away, I remembered the LORD, And my prayer came to You, Into Your holy temple.7As my life was slipping away, I remembered the LORD. And my earnest prayer went out to you in your holy Temple.
8"Those who regard vain idols Forsake their faithfulness,8Those who worship false gods turn their backs on all God’s mercies.
9But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving. That which I have vowed I will pay. Salvation is from the LORD."9But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the LORD alone.”
10Then the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land.10Then the LORD ordered the fish to spit Jonah out onto the beach.
