For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of Asaph. I will cry out to God and call for help! I will cry out to God and he will pay attention to me. 1For the choir director: according to Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and He will hear me.
In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted. 2I sought the Lord in my day of trouble. My hands were continually lifted up all night long; I refused to be comforted.
I said, "I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me." (Selah) 3I think of God; I groan; I meditate; my spirit becomes weak. Selah
You held my eyelids open; I was troubled and could not speak. 4You have kept me from closing my eyes; I am troubled and cannot speak.
I thought about the days of old, about ancient times. 5I consider days of old, years long past.
I said, "During the night I will remember the song I once sang; I will think very carefully." I tried to make sense of what was happening. 6At night I remember my music; I meditate in my heart, and my spirit ponders."
I asked, "Will the Lord reject me forever? Will he never again show me his favor? 7Will the Lord reject forever and never again show favor?
Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise failed forever? 8Has His faithful love ceased forever? Is His promise at an end for all generations?
Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has his anger stifled his compassion?" 9Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He in anger withheld His compassion?" Selah
Then I said, "I am sickened by the thought that the sovereign One might become inactive. 10So I say, "I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed."
I will remember the works of the LORD. Yes, I will remember the amazing things you did long ago! 11I will remember the LORD's works; yes, I will remember Your ancient wonders.
I will think about all you have done; I will reflect upon your deeds!" 12I will reflect on all You have done and meditate on Your actions.
O God, your deeds are extraordinary! What god can compare to our great God? 13God, Your way is holy. What god is great like God?
You are the God who does amazing things; you have revealed your strength among the nations. 14You are the God who works wonders; You revealed Your strength among the peoples.
You delivered your people by your strength--the children of Jacob and Joseph. (Selah) 15With power You redeemed Your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and trembled. Yes, the depths of the sea shook with fear. 16The waters saw You, God. The waters saw You; they trembled. Even the depths shook.
The clouds poured down rain; the skies thundered. Yes, your arrows flashed about. 17The clouds poured down water. The storm clouds thundered; Your arrows flashed back and forth.
Your thunderous voice was heard in the wind; the lightning bolts lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook. 18The sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind; lightning lit up the world. The earth shook and quaked.
You walked through the sea; you passed through the surging waters, but left no footprints. 19Your way went through the sea and Your path through the great waters, but Your footprints were unseen.
You led your people like a flock of sheep, by the hand of Moses and Aaron. 20You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
