NET Bible | International Standard Version |
O LORD, you are my God! I will exalt you in praise, I will extol your fame. For you have done extraordinary things, and executed plans made long ago exactly as you decreed. | 1LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for you have done marvelous things, plans made long ago in faithfulness and truth. |
Indeed, you have made the city into a heap of rubble, the fortified town into a heap of ruins; the fortress of foreigners is no longer a city, it will never be rebuilt. | 2For you have made the city a heap of rubble, the fortified city into a ruin; the foreigners' citadel is no longer a city— it will never be rebuilt! |
So a strong nation will extol you; the towns of powerful nations will fear you. | 3Therefore strong peoples will glorify you; cities of ruthless nations will revere you. |
For you are a protector for the poor, a protector for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the rainstorm, a shade from the heat. Though the breath of tyrants is like a winter rainstorm, | 4For you have been a stronghold for the poor, a stronghold for the needy in distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat— for the blistering attack from the ruthless is like a rainstorm beating against a wall, |
like heat in a dry land, you humble the boasting foreigners. Just as the shadow of a cloud causes the heat to subside, so he causes the song of tyrants to cease. | 5and the noise of foreigners is like the heat of the desert. Just as you subdue heat by the shade of clouds, so the victory songs of violent men will be stilled. |
The LORD who commands armies will hold a banquet for all the nations on this mountain. At this banquet there will be plenty of meat and aged wine--tender meat and choicest wine. | 6"On this mountain, the LORD of the Heavenly Armies will prepare for all peoples a banquet of rich food, a banquet of well-aged wines— rich food full of marrow, and refined wines of the finest vintage |
On this mountain he will swallow up the shroud that is over all the peoples, the woven covering that is over all the nations; | 7And on this mountain, he will swallow up the burial shroud that enfolds all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations— |
he will swallow up death permanently. The sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from every face, and remove his people's disgrace from all the earth. Indeed, the LORD has announced it! | 8he has swallowed up death forever! Then the Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces, and he will take away the disgrace of his people from the entire earth." for the LORD has spoken. |
At that time they will say, "Look, here is our God! We waited for him and he delivered us. Here is the LORD! We waited for him. Let's rejoice and celebrate his deliverance!" | 9"And you will say at that time, 'Look! It's the LORD! This is our God! We waited for him, and he saved us. This is the LORD! We waited for him, so let us rejoice, and we will be glad that he has saved us." |
For the LORD's power will make this mountain secure. Moab will be trampled down where it stands, as a heap of straw is trampled down in a manure pile. | 10For the LORD's power will rest on this mountain, but the Moabites will be trodden down beneath him, just as straw is trodden down in the slime of a manure pit. |
Moab will spread out its hands in the middle of it, just as a swimmer spreads his hands to swim; the LORD will bring down Moab's pride as it spreads its hands. | 11They will spread out their hands in the thick of it, just as swimmers spread out their hands to swim, but the LORD will bring down their pride, together with the cleverness of their hands. |
The fortified city (along with the very tops of your walls) he will knock down, he will bring it down, he will throw it down to the dusty ground. | 12He brings down the high fortifications of your walls and lays them low; he will raze them to the ground, right down to the dust. |
