| 1By David. To you, O LORD, I cry out! My protector, do not ignore me! If you do not respond to me, I will join those who are descending into the grave. | 1A Psalm of David. Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit. |
| 2Hear my plea for mercy when I cry out to you for help, when I lift my hands toward your holy temple! | 2Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle. |
| 3Do not drag me away with evil men, with those who behave wickedly, who talk so friendly to their neighbors, while they plan to harm them! | 3Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts. |
| 4Pay them back for their evil deeds! Pay them back for what they do! Punish them! | 4Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert. |
| 5For they do not understand the LORD's actions, or the way he carries out justice. The LORD will permanently demolish them. | 5Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up. |
| 6The LORD deserves praise, for he has heard my plea for mercy! | 6Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. |
| 7The LORD strengthens and protects me; I trust in him with all my heart. I am rescued and my heart is full of joy; I will sing to him in gratitude. | 7The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. |
| 8The LORD strengthens his people; he protects and delivers his chosen king. | 8The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed. |
| 9Deliver your people! Empower the nation that belongs to you! Care for them like a shepherd and carry them in your arms at all times! | 9Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever. |
