New International Version | King James Bible |
Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! | 1Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. |
The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel. | 2The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel. |
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. | 3He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. |
He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. | 4He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. |
Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. | 5Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. |
The LORD sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground. | 6The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground. |
Sing to the LORD with grateful praise; make music to our God on the harp. | 7Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: |
He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills. | 8Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains. |
He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call. | 9He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry. |
His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior; | 10He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. |
the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. | 11The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. |
Extol the LORD, Jerusalem; praise your God, Zion. | 12Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion. |
He strengthens the bars of your gates and blesses your people within you. | 13For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee. |
He grants peace to your borders and satisfies you with the finest of wheat. | 14He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat. |
He sends his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. | 15He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly. |
He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes. | 16He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes. |
He hurls down his hail like pebbles. Who can withstand his icy blast? | 17He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold? |
He sends his word and melts them; he stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow. | 18He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow. |
He has revealed his word to Jacob, his laws and decrees to Israel. | 19He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. |
He has done this for no other nation; they do not know his laws. Praise the LORD. | 20He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD. |
