New International Version | King James Bible |
Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. | 1Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. |
Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. | 2Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. |
Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. | 3Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. |
For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. | 4For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. |
The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. | 5He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. |
By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. | 6By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. |
He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. | 7He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. |
Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. | 8Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. |
For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. | 9For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. |
The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. | 10The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect. |
But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. | 11The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. |
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. | 12Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. |
From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; | 13The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. |
from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth-- | 14From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. |
he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. | 15He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works. |
No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. | 16There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. |
A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. | 17An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. |
But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, | 18Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; |
to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. | 19To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. |
We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. | 20Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. |
In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. | 21For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. |
May your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in you. | 22Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee. |
