Proverbs 11
NIV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
The LORD detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.1A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight.
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.2When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom.
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.3The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them.
Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.4Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.
The righteousness of the blameless makes their paths straight, but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness.5The righteousness of the blameless will smooth his way, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.
The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.6The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the treacherous will be caught by their own greed.
Hopes placed in mortals die with them; all the promise of their power comes to nothing.7When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, And the hope of strong men perishes.
The righteous person is rescued from trouble, and it falls on the wicked instead.8The righteous is delivered from trouble, But the wicked takes his place.
With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.9With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.
When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.10When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, And when the wicked perish, there is joyful shouting.
Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.11By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, But by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down.
Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.12He who despises his neighbor lacks sense, But a man of understanding keeps silent.
A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.13He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is trustworthy conceals a matter.
For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.14Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in abundance of counselors there is victory.
Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer, but whoever refuses to shake hands in pledge is safe.15He who is guarantor for a stranger will surely suffer for it, But he who hates being a guarantor is secure.
A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth.16A gracious woman attains honor, And ruthless men attain riches.
Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.17The merciful man does himself good, But the cruel man does himself harm.
A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.18The wicked earns deceptive wages, But he who sows righteousness gets a true reward.
Truly the righteous attain life, but whoever pursues evil finds death.19He who is steadfast in righteousness will attain to life, And he who pursues evil will bring about his own death.
The LORD detests those whose hearts are perverse, but he delights in those whose ways are blameless.20The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, But the blameless in their walk are His delight.
Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.21Assuredly, the evil man will not go unpunished, But the descendants of the righteous will be delivered.
Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.22As a ring of gold in a swine's snout So is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion.
The desire of the righteous ends only in good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.23The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.24There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want.
A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.25The generous man will be prosperous, And he who waters will himself be watered.
People curse the one who hoards grain, but they pray God's blessing on the one who is willing to sell.26He who withholds grain, the people will curse him, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.
Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it.27He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, But he who seeks evil, evil will come to him.
Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.28He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.
Whoever brings ruin on their family will inherit only wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise.29He who troubles his own house will inherit wind, And the foolish will be servant to the wisehearted.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who is wise wins souls.
If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!31If the righteous will be rewarded in the earth, How much more the wicked and the sinner!
