New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
When Israel came out of Egypt, Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,1When Israel went forth from Egypt, The house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
Judah became God's sanctuary, Israel his dominion.2Judah became His sanctuary, Israel, His dominion.
The sea looked and fled, the Jordan turned back;3The sea looked and fled; The Jordan turned back.
the mountains leaped like rams, the hills like lambs.4The mountains skipped like rams, The hills, like lambs.
Why was it, sea, that you fled? Why, Jordan, did you turn back?5What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back?
Why, mountains, did you leap like rams, you hills, like lambs?6O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs?
Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,7Tremble, O earth, before the Lord, Before the God of Jacob,
who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.8Who turned the rock into a pool of water, The flint into a fountain of water.
