New International VersionNET Bible
"At this my heart pounds and leaps from its place.1At this also my heart pounds and leaps from its place.
Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice, to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.2Listen carefully to the thunder of his voice, to the rumbling that proceeds from his mouth.
He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven and sends it to the ends of the earth.3Under the whole heaven he lets it go, even his lightning to the far corners of the earth.
After that comes the sound of his roar; he thunders with his majestic voice. When his voice resounds, he holds nothing back.4After that a voice roars; he thunders with an exalted voice, and he does not hold back his lightning bolts when his voice is heard.
God's voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.5God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.
He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,' and to the rain shower, 'Be a mighty downpour.'6For to the snow he says, 'Fall to earth,' and to the torrential rains, 'Pour down.'
So that everyone he has made may know his work, he stops all people from their labor.7He causes everyone to stop working, so that all people may know his work.
The animals take cover; they remain in their dens.8The wild animals go to their lairs, and in their dens they remain.
The tempest comes out from its chamber, the cold from the driving winds.9A tempest blows out from its chamber, icy cold from the driving winds.
The breath of God produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen.10The breath of God produces ice, and the breadth of the waters freeze solid.
He loads the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through them.11He loads the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through the clouds.
At his direction they swirl around over the face of the whole earth to do whatever he commands them.12The clouds go round in circles, wheeling about according to his plans, to carry out all that he commands them over the face of the whole inhabited world.
He brings the clouds to punish people, or to water his earth and show his love.13Whether it is for punishment for his land, or whether it is for mercy, he causes it to find its mark.
"Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God's wonders.14"Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still and consider the wonders God works.
Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes his lightning flash?15Do you know how God commands them, how he makes lightning flash in his storm cloud?
Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?16Do you know about the balancing of the clouds, that wondrous activity of him who is perfect in knowledge?
You who swelter in your clothes when the land lies hushed under the south wind,17You, whose garments are hot when the earth is still because of the south wind,
can you join him in spreading out the skies, hard as a mirror of cast bronze?18will you, with him, spread out the clouds, solid as a mirror of molten metal?
"Tell us what we should say to him; we cannot draw up our case because of our darkness.19Tell us what we should say to him. We cannot prepare a case because of the darkness.
Should he be told that I want to speak? Would anyone ask to be swallowed up?20Should he be informed that I want to speak? If a man speaks, surely he would be swallowed up!
Now no one can look at the sun, bright as it is in the skies after the wind has swept them clean.21But now, the sun cannot be looked at--it is bright in the skies--after a wind passed and swept the clouds away.
Out of the north he comes in golden splendor; God comes in awesome majesty.22From the north he comes in golden splendor; around God is awesome majesty.
The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power; in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress.23As for the Almighty, we cannot attain to him! He is great in power, but justice and abundant righteousness he does not oppress.
Therefore, people revere him, for does he not have regard for all the wise in heart?"24Therefore people fear him, for he does not regard all the wise in heart."
