Set the trumpet to your mouth! He shall come like an eagle against the house of the LORD, Because they have transgressed My covenant And rebelled against My law.1Put the ram’s horn to your lips! An eagle looms over the house of the LORD, because the people have transgressed My covenant and rebelled against My law.
Israel will cry to Me, ‘My God, we know You!’2Israel cries out to Me, “O our God, we know You!”
Israel has rejected the good; The enemy will pursue him.3But Israel has rejected good; an enemy will pursue him.
“They set up kings, but not by Me; They made princes, but I did not acknowledge them. From their silver and gold They made idols for themselves— That they might be cut off.4They set up kings, but not by Me. They make princes, but without My approval. With their silver and gold they make themselves idols, to their own destruction.
Your calf is rejected, O Samaria! My anger is aroused against them— How long until they attain to innocence?5He has rejected your calf, O Samaria. My anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of innocence?
For from Israel is even this: A workman made it, and it is not God; But the calf of Samaria shall be broken to pieces.6For this thing is from Israel—a craftsman made it, and it is not God. It will be broken to pieces, that calf of Samaria.
“They sow the wind, And reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no bud; It shall never produce meal. If it should produce, Aliens would swallow it up.7For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. There is no standing grain; what sprouts fails to yield flour. Even if it should produce, the foreigners would swallow it up.
Israel is swallowed up; Now they are among the Gentiles Like a vessel in which is no pleasure.8Israel is swallowed up! Now they are among the nations like a worthless vessel.
For they have gone up to Assyria, Like a wild donkey alone by itself; Ephraim has hired lovers.9For they have gone up to Assyria like a wild donkey on its own. Ephraim has hired lovers.
Yes, though they have hired among the nations, Now I will gather them; And they shall sorrow a little, Because of the burden of the king of princes.10Though they hire allies among the nations, I will now round them up, and they will begin to diminish under the oppression of the king of princes.
“Because Ephraim has made many altars for sin, They have become for him altars for sinning.11Though Ephraim multiplied the altars for sin, they became his altars for sinning.
I have written for him the great things of My law, But they were considered a strange thing.12Though I wrote for them the great things of My law, they regarded them as something strange.
For the sacrifices of My offerings they sacrifice flesh and eat it, But the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and punish their sins. They shall return to Egypt.13Though they offer sacrifices as gifts to Me, and though they eat the meat, the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and punish their sins: They will return to Egypt.
“For Israel has forgotten his Maker, And has built temples; Judah also has multiplied fortified cities; But I will send fire upon his cities, And it shall devour his palaces.”14Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; Judah has multiplied its fortified cities. But I will send fire upon their cities, and it will consume their citadels.
