But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:1But as for you, speak the things that are consistent with sound doctrine.
that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, and sound in faith, love, and perseverance.
the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—3Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers or addicted to much wine, but teachers of good.
that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,4In this way they can train the young women to love their husbands and children,
to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.5to be self-controlled, pure, managers of their households, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be discredited.
Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded,6In the same way, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.
in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,7In everything, show yourself to be an example by doing good works. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,
sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.8and wholesome speech that is above reproach, so that anyone who opposes us will be ashamed to have nothing bad to say about us.
Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back,9Slaves are to submit to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.10not stealing from them, but showing all good faith, so that in every respect they will adorn the teaching about God our Savior.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to everyone.
teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,12It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,13as we await the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.14He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.15Speak these things as you encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
