Then I turned and raised my eyes, and saw there a flying scroll.1Again I lifted up my eyes and saw before me a flying scroll.
And he said to me, “What do you see?” So I answered, “I see a flying scroll. Its length is twenty cubits and its width ten cubits.”2“What do you see?” asked the angel. “I see a flying scroll,” I replied, “twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide.”
Then he said to me, “This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth: ‘Every thief shall be expelled,’ according to this side of the scroll; and, ‘Every perjurer shall be expelled,’ according to that side of it.”3Then he told me, “This is the curse that is going out over the face of all the land, for according to one side of the scroll, every thief will be removed; and according to the other side, every perjurer will be removed.
“I will send out the curse,” says the LORD of hosts; “It shall enter the house of the thief And the house of the one who swears falsely by My name. It shall remain in the midst of his house And consume it, with its timber and stones.”4I will send it out, declares the LORD of Hosts, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of him who swears falsely by My name. It will remain inside his house and destroy it, down to its timbers and stones.”
Then the angel who talked with me came out and said to me, “Lift your eyes now, and see what this is that goes forth.”5Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and told me, “Now lift up your eyes and see what is approaching.”
So I asked, “What is it?” And he said, “It is a basket that is going forth.” He also said, “This is their resemblance throughout the earth:6“What is it?” I asked. And he replied, “A measuring basket is going forth.” Then he continued, “This is their iniquity in all the land.”
Here is a lead disc lifted up, and this is a woman sitting inside the basket”;7And behold, the cover of lead was raised, and there was a woman sitting inside the basket.
then he said, “This is Wickedness!” And he thrust her down into the basket, and threw the lead cover over its mouth.8“This is Wickedness,” he said. And he shoved her down into the basket, pushing down the lead cover over its opening.
Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were two women, coming with the wind in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven.9Then I lifted up my eyes and saw two women approaching, with the wind in their wings. Their wings were like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth.
So I said to the angel who talked with me, “Where are they carrying the basket?”10“Where are they taking the basket?” I asked the angel who was speaking with me.
And he said to me, “To build a house for it in the land of Shinar; when it is ready, the basket will be set there on its base.”11“To build a house for it in the land of Shinar,” he told me. “And when it is ready, the basket will be set there on its pedestal.”
