New King James Version | New International Version |
Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? | 1Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? |
The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, | 2The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the LORD and against his anointed, saying, |
“Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” | 3"Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles." |
He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. | 4The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. |
Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: | 5He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, |
“Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” | 6"I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain." |
“I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. | 7I will proclaim the LORD's decree: He said to me, "You are my son; today I have become your father. |
Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. | 8Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. |
You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ” | 9You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery." |
Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. | 10Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. |
Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling. | 11Serve the LORD with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling. |
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. | 12Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. |
