| 1Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! | 1Of David. A Maskil. Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. |
| 2Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! | 2Blessed is the man whose iniquity the LORD does not count against him, in whose spirit there is no deceit. |
| 3When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. | 3When I kept silent, my bones became brittle from my groaning all day long. |
| 4Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude | 4For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was drained as in the summer heat. Selah |
| 5Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Interlude | 5Then I acknowledged my sin to You and did not hide my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah |

| 8The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. | 8I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will give you counsel and watch over you. |
| 9Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.” | 9Do not be like the horse or mule, which have no understanding; they must be controlled with bit and bridle to make them come to you. |
| 10Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the LORD. | 10Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but loving devotion surrounds him who trusts in the LORD. |
| 11So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure! | 11Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, O righteous ones; shout for joy, all you upright in heart. |
