Psalm 9
New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.1I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.
I will be filled with joy because of you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High.2I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
My enemies retreated; they staggered and died when you appeared.3When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish before your presence.
For you have judged in my favor; from your throne you have judged with fairness.4For you have maintained my just cause; you have sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.
You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have erased their names forever.5You have rebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish; you have blotted out their name forever and ever.
The enemy is finished, in endless ruins; the cities you uprooted are now forgotten.6The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins; their cities you rooted out; the very memory of them has perished.
But the LORD reigns forever, executing judgment from his throne.7But the LORD sits enthroned forever; he has established his throne for justice,
He will judge the world with justice and rule the nations with fairness.8and he judges the world with righteousness; he judges the peoples with uprightness.
The LORD is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.9The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, do not abandon those who search for you.10And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Sing praises to the LORD who reigns in Jerusalem. Tell the world about his unforgettable deeds.11Sing praises to the LORD, who sits enthroned in Zion! Tell among the peoples his deeds!
For he who avenges murder cares for the helpless. He does not ignore the cries of those who suffer.12For he who avenges blood is mindful of them; he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.
LORD, have mercy on me. See how my enemies torment me. Snatch me back from the jaws of death.13Be gracious to me, O LORD! See my affliction from those who hate me, O you who lift me up from the gates of death,
Save me so I can praise you publicly at Jerusalem’s gates, so I can rejoice that you have rescued me.14that I may recount all your praises, that in the gates of the daughter of Zion I may rejoice in your salvation.
The nations have fallen into the pit they dug for others. Their own feet have been caught in the trap they set.15The nations have sunk in the pit that they made; in the net that they hid, their own foot has been caught.
The LORD is known for his justice. The wicked are trapped by their own deeds. Quiet Interlude16The LORD has made himself known; he has executed judgment; the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion. Selah
The wicked will go down to the grave. This is the fate of all the nations who ignore God.17The wicked shall return to Sheol, all the nations that forget God.
But the needy will not be ignored forever; the hopes of the poor will not always be crushed.18For the needy shall not always be forgotten, and the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.
Arise, O LORD! Do not let mere mortals defy you! Judge the nations!19Arise, O LORD! Let not man prevail; let the nations be judged before you!
Make them tremble in fear, O LORD. Let the nations know they are merely human. Interlude20Put them in fear, O LORD! Let the nations know that they are but men! Selah
