New Living Translation | International Standard Version |
God presides over heaven’s court; he pronounces judgment on the heavenly beings: | 1 God takes his stand in the divine assembly; among the divine beings he renders judgment: |
“How long will you hand down unjust decisions by favoring the wicked? Interlude | 2"How long will you judge partially by showing favor on the wicked? Interlude |
“Give justice to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute. | 3"Defend the poor and the fatherless. Vindicate the afflicted and the poor. |
Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people. | 4Rescue the poor and the needy, delivering them from the power of the wicked. |
But these oppressors know nothing; they are so ignorant! They wander about in darkness, while the whole world is shaken to the core. | 5They neither know nor understand; they walk about in the dark while all the foundations of the earth are shaken. |
I say, ‘You are gods; you are all children of the Most High. | 6"Indeed I said, 'You are gods, and all of you are sons of the Most High. |
But you will die like mere mortals and fall like every other ruler.’” | 7However, as all human beings do, you will die, and like other rulers, you will fall.' |
Rise up, O God, and judge the earth, for all the nations belong to you. | 8Arise, God, to judge the earth, for all nations belong to you. |
