New Living Translation | King James Bible |
“Stand up, son of man,” said the voice. “I want to speak with you.” | 1And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee. |
The Spirit came into me as he spoke, and he set me on my feet. I listened carefully to his words. | 2And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me. |
“Son of man,” he said, “I am sending you to the nation of Israel, a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me. They and their ancestors have been rebelling against me to this very day. | 3And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day. |
They are a stubborn and hard-hearted people. But I am sending you to say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says!’ | 4For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD. |
And whether they listen or refuse to listen—for remember, they are rebels—at least they will know they have had a prophet among them. | 5And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them. |
“Son of man, do not fear them or their words. Don’t be afraid even though their threats surround you like nettles and briers and stinging scorpions. Do not be dismayed by their dark scowls, even though they are rebels. | 6And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house. |
You must give them my messages whether they listen or not. But they won’t listen, for they are completely rebellious! | 7And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious. |
Son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not join them in their rebellion. Open your mouth, and eat what I give you.” | 8But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee. |
Then I looked and saw a hand reaching out to me. It held a scroll, | 9And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein; |
which he unrolled. And I saw that both sides were covered with funeral songs, words of sorrow, and pronouncements of doom. | 10And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe. |
