1I trust in the LORD for protection. So why do you say to me, “Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety! | 1For the music director; by David. In the LORD I have taken shelter. How can you say to me, "Flee to a mountain like a bird! |
2The wicked are stringing their bows and fitting their arrows on the bowstrings. They shoot from the shadows at those whose hearts are right. | 2For look, the wicked prepare their bows, they put their arrows on the strings, to shoot in the darkness at the morally upright. |
3The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?” | 3When the foundations are destroyed, what can the godly accomplish?" |
4But the LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth. | 4The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD's throne is in heaven. His eyes watch; his eyes examine all people. |
5The LORD examines both the righteous and the wicked. He hates those who love violence. | 5The LORD approves of the godly, but he hates the wicked and those who love to do violence. |
6He will rain down blazing coals and burning sulfur on the wicked, punishing them with scorching winds. | 6May the LORD rain down burning coals and brimstone on the wicked! A whirlwind is what they deserve! |
7For the righteous LORD loves justice. The virtuous will see his face. | 7Certainly the LORD is just; he rewards godly deeds; the upright will experience his favor. |
