New Living TranslationNET Bible
I pray to you, O LORD, my rock. Do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you are silent, I might as well give up and die.1By David. To you, O LORD, I cry out! My protector, do not ignore me! If you do not respond to me, I will join those who are descending into the grave.
Listen to my prayer for mercy as I cry out to you for help, as I lift my hands toward your holy sanctuary.2Hear my plea for mercy when I cry out to you for help, when I lift my hands toward your holy temple!
Do not drag me away with the wicked— with those who do evil— those who speak friendly words to their neighbors while planning evil in their hearts.3Do not drag me away with evil men, with those who behave wickedly, who talk so friendly to their neighbors, while they plan to harm them!
Give them the punishment they so richly deserve! Measure it out in proportion to their wickedness. Pay them back for all their evil deeds! Give them a taste of what they have done to others.4Pay them back for their evil deeds! Pay them back for what they do! Punish them!
They care nothing for what the LORD has done or for what his hands have made. So he will tear them down, and they will never be rebuilt!5For they do not understand the LORD's actions, or the way he carries out justice. The LORD will permanently demolish them.
Praise the LORD! For he has heard my cry for mercy.6The LORD deserves praise, for he has heard my plea for mercy!
The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.7The LORD strengthens and protects me; I trust in him with all my heart. I am rescued and my heart is full of joy; I will sing to him in gratitude.
The LORD gives his people strength. He is a safe fortress for his anointed king.8The LORD strengthens his people; he protects and delivers his chosen king.
Save your people! Bless Israel, your special possession. Lead them like a shepherd, and carry them in your arms forever.9Deliver your people! Empower the nation that belongs to you! Care for them like a shepherd and carry them in your arms at all times!
