| 1From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help. | 1A song of ascents. Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD; |
| 2Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. | 2Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. |
| 3LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? | 3If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? |
| 4But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you. | 4But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. |
| 5I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word. | 5I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. |
| 6I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn. | 6I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. |
