| 1O LORD, the God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, let your glorious justice shine forth! | 1The LORD is a God who avenges. O God who avenges, shine forth. |
| 2Arise, O Judge of the earth. Give the proud what they deserve. | 2Rise up, Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. |
| 3How long, O LORD? How long will the wicked be allowed to gloat? | 3How long, LORD, will the wicked, how long will the wicked be jubilant? |
| 4How long will they speak with arrogance? How long will these evil people boast? | 4They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers are full of boasting. |
| 5They crush your people, LORD, hurting those you claim as your own. | 5They crush your people, LORD; they oppress your inheritance. |
| 6They kill widows and foreigners and murder orphans. | 6They slay the widow and the foreigner; they murder the fatherless. |
| 7“The LORD isn’t looking,” they say, “and besides, the God of Israel doesn’t care.” | 7They say, "The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob takes no notice." |
| 8Think again, you fools! When will you finally catch on? | 8Take notice, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise? |
| 9Is he deaf—the one who made your ears? Is he blind—the one who formed your eyes? | 9Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see? |
| 10He punishes the nations—won’t he also punish you? He knows everything—doesn’t he also know what you are doing? | 10Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge? |

| 12Joyful are those you discipline, LORD, those you teach with your instructions. | 12Blessed is the one you discipline, LORD, the one you teach from your law; |
| 13You give them relief from troubled times until a pit is dug to capture the wicked. | 13you grant them relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked. |
| 14The LORD will not reject his people; he will not abandon his special possession. | 14For the LORD will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance. |
| 15Judgment will again be founded on justice, and those with virtuous hearts will pursue it. | 15Judgment will again be founded on righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it. |

| 19When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. | 19When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. |
| 20Can unjust leaders claim that God is on their side— leaders whose decrees permit injustice? | 20Can a corrupt throne be allied with you-- a throne that brings on misery by its decrees? |
| 21They gang up against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. | 21The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. |
| 22But the LORD is my fortress; my God is the mighty rock where I hide. | 22But the LORD has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge. |
| 23God will turn the sins of evil people back on them. He will destroy them for their sins. The LORD our God will destroy them. | 23He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them. |
