| 2He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God's house. | 2who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. | 2He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house. | 2Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. | 2He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was in all God's household. |
| 3Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. | 3For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. | 3For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house. | 3For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. | 3For Jesus is considered worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder has more honor than the house. |
| 4For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. | 4(For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) | 4For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. | 4For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. | 4Now every house is built by someone, but the One who built everything is God. |
| 5"Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's house," bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. | 5Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, | 5Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; | 5And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; | 5Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's household, as a testimony to what would be said in the future. |
| 6But Christ is faithful as the Son over God's house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. | 6but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope. | 6but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house-- whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. | 6But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. | 6But Christ was faithful as a Son over His household. And we are that household if we hold on to the courage and the confidence of our hope. |
Do Not Harden Your Hearts | 7So, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you hear his voice, | 7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, | 7Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, | 7Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, | 7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear His voice, |
| 8do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness, | 8do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, | 8DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME, AS IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS, | 8Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: | 8do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, |
| 9where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did. | 9where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. | 9WHERE YOUR FATHERS TRIED Me BY TESTING Me, AND SAW MY WORKS FOR FORTY YEARS. | 9When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. | 9where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works |
| 10That is why I was angry with that generation; I said, 'Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.' | 10Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’ | 10"THEREFORE I WAS ANGRY WITH THIS GENERATION, AND SAID, 'THEY ALWAYS GO ASTRAY IN THEIR HEART, AND THEY DID NOT KNOW MY WAYS'; | 10Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. | 10for 40 years. Therefore I was provoked with that generation and said, "They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known My ways." |
| 11So I declared on oath in my anger, 'They shall never enter my rest.'" | 11As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’” | 11AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, 'THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.'" | 11So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) | 11So I swore in My anger, "They will not enter My rest." |
The Dangers of Unbelief | 12See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. | 12Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. | 12Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. | 12Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. | 12Watch out, brothers, so that there won't be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that departs from the living God. |
| 13But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called "Today," so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. | 13But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. | 13But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. | 13But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. | 13But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin's deception. |
| 14We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. | 14For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. | 14For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, | 14For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; | 14For we have become companions of the Messiah if we hold firmly until the end the reality that we had at the start. |
| 15As has just been said: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion." | 15As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” | 15while it is said, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME." | 15While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. | 15As it is said: Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. |
| 16Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? | 16For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? | 16For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? | 16For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. | 16For who heard and rebelled? Wasn't it really all who came out of Egypt under Moses? |
| 17And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? | 17And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? | 17And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? | 17But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? | 17And who was He provoked with for 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? |
| 18And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? | 18And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? | 18And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? | 18And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? | 18And who did He swear to that they would not enter His rest, if not those who disobeyed? |
| 19So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief. | 19So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. | 19So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. | 19So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. | 19So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. |
