Align worship with God's will, not Ahaz's.
How can we ensure our worship aligns with God's will, unlike Ahaz's example?

Ahaz’s Misguided Worship

2 Chronicles 28:2: “He followed the ways of the kings of Israel and even made cast images for the Baals.”

• Ahaz copied pagan patterns, defining worship by culture, not by God’s word.

• His worship looked “religious” yet rejected God’s exclusive commands (Exodus 20:3-4).

Guardrails for God-Honoring Worship

• Submit to God’s revealed pattern – Deuteronomy 12:4: “You must not worship the LORD your God in that way.”

• Center on God’s glory, not our preferences – 1 Chronicles 16:29: “Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering and come before Him.”

• Approach through Christ alone – Hebrews 10:19-22; He is the once-for-all sacrifice that makes our worship acceptable.

• Depend on Spirit and truth – John 4:24: “God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

Practical Heart Checks

• Scripture Saturation

– Evaluate every element of gathered worship by the Word (Colossians 3:16).

– Sing, pray, give, preach, and serve in ways Scripture clearly commends.

• Whole-Life Sacrifice

Romans 12:1-2 calls us to present our bodies “as a living sacrifice.”

– Monday-through-Saturday obedience validates Sunday praise (Matthew 15:8-9).

• Purity over novelty

– Ask, “Does this practice point people to God’s holiness, or to human creativity?” (Hebrews 12:28-29).

• Corporate Unity

1 Corinthians 14:26: “Let all things be done for edification.”

– Seek what builds up the entire body, not merely personal taste.

Walking in Christ, Our Perfect King

• Unlike Ahaz, Jesus obeyed the Father perfectly; in Him we have the model and power for true worship (Hebrews 4:15-16).

• Staying close to Him through daily Word and prayer keeps our worship aligned with God’s will.

In what ways can we guard against idolatry in our own lives today?
