Applying Jesus' response daily?
How can we apply Jesus' response to the Sadducees in our daily faith?

Setting the Scene

“‘In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be? For all seven were married to her.’ ” (Luke 20:33)

Jesus answered:

“ ‘The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. Indeed, they cannot die anymore, because they are like the angels and are sons of God, since they are sons of the resurrection. But in the account of the burning bush, even Moses demonstrated that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord “the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to Him all are alive.’ ” (Luke 20:34-38)

Key Truths from Jesus’ Response

• The resurrection is a literal future reality.

• Earthly institutions like marriage will be transformed in the age to come.

• God’s covenant name—“I AM” (Exodus 3:6)—proves ongoing life for His people.

• Scripture, rightly understood, carries final authority over human reasoning.

• Eternal identity as “sons of God” supersedes every temporary status.

Living with Resurrection Hope

• Priorities shift: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” (Colossians 3:2)

• Holiness becomes urgent: “Everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself.” (1 John 3:3)

• Grief is cushioned by certainty: “We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14)

• Courage rises: “If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink… But Christ has indeed been raised.” (1 Corinthians 15:32, 20)

Anchoring Identity in God

• Relationships are gifts, not ultimate anchors.

• My worth stems from belonging to the living God: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” (Galatians 2:20)

• Security flows from His unchanging covenant faithfulness to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—and to every believer.

Worshipping the God of the Living

• Praise centers on His present-tense life and power.

• Prayer expects real-time interaction with a living Lord.

• Daily obedience testifies that “to Him all are alive.” (Luke 20:38)

Practical Steps for Daily Faith

• Read aloud resurrection passages each week: Luke 20:34-38; 1 Corinthians 15; Revelation 21:1-4.

• Memorize Luke 20:38 to keep perspective when facing loss or fear.

• Speak resurrection hope during everyday conversations, especially at funerals or hospital visits.

• Hold earthly roles loosely—spouse, parent, worker—while investing intentionally in what lasts forever.

• Replace worry with anticipation: jot down one future promise from Scripture each morning and thank God for its certainty.
