Applying Saul's courage daily?
How can we apply Saul's courage in Acts 9:29 to our daily lives?

Setting the Stage

“Saul spoke and debated with the Hellenistic Jews, but they tried to kill him.” (Acts 9:29)

Right after his dramatic conversion, Saul refuses to hide. He steps into synagogues where opposition is fiercest, boldly sharing Christ. That same Holy Spirit–given courage is available to us.

What Courage Looks Like Today

•Choosing clarity over silence when Jesus’ name is mocked at work or school

•Refusing to compromise biblical convictions for social acceptance (Romans 12:2)

•Offering to pray for a hurting neighbor even when it feels awkward (James 5:16)

•Standing for the unborn, the orphan, or the persecuted when culture presses the other way (Proverbs 31:8–9)

Roots of Saul’s Boldness

1.Conversion Reality – Saul had personally met the risen Christ (Acts 9:5–6). We, too, anchor courage in a living relationship, not in mere ideas (John 15:5).

2.Spirit Empowerment – He was “filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 9:17). Boldness flows from surrender, not self-confidence (2 Timothy 1:7).

3.Scripture Saturation – Saul knew the Law and Prophets; now he saw Jesus in them (Acts 9:22). Knowing the Word arms us with truth (Ephesians 6:17).

4.Eternal Perspective – Threats meant little compared to Christ’s glory (2 Corinthians 4:17–18). Fear shrinks when eternity looms large.

Daily Practices to Grow Courage

•Start each morning acknowledging Christ’s lordship; ask specifically for boldness (Acts 4:29).

•Memorize key verses that stiffen the spine—e.g., “The LORD is my helper; I will not be afraid” (Hebrews 13:6).

•Join believers who spur one another on (Hebrews 10:24–25). Isolation erodes bravery.

•Share one faith story each week—however small—to keep the gospel on your lips (Philemon 1:6).

•Serve where the need is greater than your comfort level; courage strengthens through use (Joshua 1:9).

Measuring Progress

•Less hesitation when prompted to speak truth

•Quicker repentance when fear wins a round

•Deeper joy in obedience regardless of outcomes (Acts 5:41)

•Growing influence that points others to Christ

Encouragement for the Journey

The same Jesus who met Saul meets us. The same Spirit who empowered him indwells us. Step out today; courage usually shows up after we move, not before.
