Be more open to the Holy Spirit?
How can we be more receptive to the Holy Spirit's work in our lives?

Context: The Spirit Breaks In – Acts 10:44

“While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard his message.”

Open, Listening Hearts Welcome the Spirit

• The Gentiles in Cornelius’ house sat under Peter’s teaching with eager expectation.

James 1:21 – “Humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save your souls.”

• Practical step: Begin each day asking, “Lord, what do You want to say?” and pause long enough to listen.

Submit to Scripture’s Authority

• The Spirit never contradicts the Word He inspired (2 Peter 1:21).

Colossians 3:16 – “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you.”

• Read, memorize, and meditate daily; a Scripture-saturated mind gives the Spirit a vocabulary for guidance.

Obedient Faith Unlocks Further Filling

Acts 5:32 – “The Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

• Immediate obedience to known truth keeps spiritual ears clear.

• Ask: “What’s my next step of obedience?” then do it.

Persistent Prayer and Worship Create Space

Acts 2:42 – early believers “devoted themselves to prayer.”

• Jude 20 – “Pray in the Holy Spirit.”

• Schedule unhurried prayer; add praise music that centers the heart on Christ (Ephesians 5:19).

Repentance Keeps the Channel Clean

1 Thessalonians 5:19 – “Do not quench the Spirit.”

• Confess sin quickly (1 John 1:9).

• Replace compromise with conscious pursuit of holiness (Galatians 5:16).

Fellowship and Unity Invite His Manifestation

Acts 10 shows the Spirit poured out on a gathered household, not isolated individuals.

Hebrews 10:24-25 – consider how to spur one another on.

• Engage in a small group where spiritual gifts can operate and be affirmed.

Live with Expectant Dependence

Ephesians 5:18 – “Be filled with the Spirit” (continuous action).

• Start tasks whispering, “Spirit, empower me,” and end them thanking Him.

• Maintain a posture of dependence rather than self-reliance.

This Week’s Action List

1. Set aside 10 minutes of silent listening before Bible reading.

2. Pick one command you’ve delayed obeying; follow through.

3. Confess any known sin immediately.

4. Join or host a gathering focused on Scripture and prayer.

5. Ask the Spirit to fill you each morning, believing He delights to answer (Luke 11:13).
