Believers' response to spiritual trials?
How should believers respond to spiritual challenges, inspired by Luke 8:28?

Recognize Jesus’ Absolute Authority

“When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him, and shouted in a loud voice, ‘What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You not to torture me!’” (Luke 8:28)

• Even demons acknowledge who Jesus is; every spiritual battle ultimately turns on His supremacy (Colossians 1:16-17).

• Our first response is to settle in our hearts that Christ rules every realm—seen and unseen (Matthew 28:18).

Run to Him, Not from Him

• The possessed man sprinted toward Jesus, not away.

• In crisis, move toward the Lord through prayer, worship, and Scripture rather than retreating into fear (Psalm 34:4-6).

• “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10).

Confess Christ Out Loud

• The demon spoke the truth about Jesus’ identity. How much more should believers declare His greatness.

• Speaking Scripture aloud reinforces faith and repels darkness (Revelation 12:11; Romans 10:17).

• Sample declarations:

– “Jesus is Lord over this situation.”

– “Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

Humble Yourself Under His Hand

• The man fell at Jesus’ feet—an act of submission.

• “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may exalt you in due time” (1 Peter 5:6).

• Humility positions us to receive deliverance and guidance.

Suit Up with Spiritual Armor

(Ephesians 6:10-18)

• Belt of truth—accurate doctrine steadies you.

• Breastplate of righteousness—Christ’s righteousness guards your heart.

• Shoes of peace—stand firm, undeterred by chaos.

• Shield of faith—quench enemy darts of doubt.

• Helmet of salvation—protect thought life with gospel certainty.

• Sword of the Spirit—speak God’s Word into the conflict.

• Pray in the Spirit—maintain continual, strategic communication with headquarters.

Resist, Don’t Negotiate

• “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).

• Resistance is active—refusing lies, rejecting temptation, standing on truth.

Lean on the Body of Christ

• After deliverance, the former demoniac stayed near Jesus’ followers (Luke 8:38-39).

• Community provides accountability, encouragement, and shared authority (Matthew 18:19-20; Hebrews 10:24-25).

Guard the Gates Continually

• Monitor what enters mind, heart, home (Philippians 4:8).

• Replace toxic input with worship, Scripture, and wholesome conversations.

• “Do not give the devil a foothold” (Ephesians 4:27).

Live in Ongoing Freedom

• Jesus told the healed man to return home and “declare how much God has done for you” (Luke 8:39).

• Testimony reinforces victory and points others to Christ’s power (Psalm 107:2).

• Spiritual challenges will recur, but each one is an opportunity to demonstrate the triumph of Jesus again.
