Daily experience of goodness & mercy?
How can we experience "goodness and mercy" daily in our Christian walk?

The Shepherd’s Promise in Plain Sight

“Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (Psalm 23:6)

Goodness and Mercy—More Than Nice Ideas

• Goodness: every generous act of God’s favor, guidance, provision, and protection (James 1:17).

• Mercy: His compassionate withholding of judgment, plus active help in weakness (Hebrews 4:16; Lamentations 3:22–23).

• Both are literal realities that “follow” (pursue) the believer without interruption.

Live Close to the Shepherd

• Jesus calls Himself “the good shepherd” (John 10:11). Staying near Him is the surest way to notice what is already following you.

• Daily habits: Scripture intake, conversational prayer throughout the day, and quick obedience to His promptings.

Trust the Path He Chooses

• Because “God works all things together for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28), even detours carry goodness and mercy.

• When circumstances feel contrary, rehearse truth aloud: “Goodness and mercy are here, even if my feelings lag behind.”

Receive, Then Reflect

• We experience the Lord’s mercy most richly when we extend it to others (Matthew 5:7).

• Simple actions: forgive quickly, give generously, speak kindly. What we sow returns as fresh awareness of His goodness (Luke 6:38).

Keep a Running Record of Grace

• End—or begin—each day listing evidence of God’s kindness: answered prayers, unexpected help, inner peace, financial provision.

• Over time, the list awakens the heart to the constancy of His care.

Stay in the House of the Lord

• “I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever” points to regular corporate worship now and eternal fellowship later (Hebrews 10:24–25).

• Fellowship amplifies testimony; hearing others’ stories of mercy sharpens your own sight.

Let Scripture and the Spirit Lead the Conversation

• As you read, personalize promises: “Your goodness and mercy follow ME today.”

• Invite the Holy Spirit to highlight fresh applications; He “has given us everything we need for life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3).

A Simple Daily Rhythm

1. Greet the day with Psalm 23:6 aloud.

2. Ask, “Shepherd, open my eyes to today’s goodness and mercy.”

3. Pause at meals to note one act of goodness you’ve noticed.

4. Show mercy intentionally: a forgiving text, a helpful deed, a gentle reply.

5. Close the day recounting evidences of His goodness and mercy, then rest in the promise that tomorrow they will follow again.

Assurance for Today—and Forever

Goodness and mercy are not intermittent visitors; they are covenant companions guaranteed by the Shepherd who cannot lie. Walk expectantly, because what Psalm 23:6 proclaims is exactly what every redeemed heart can experience—every single day, and then forever.
