Ezekiel 26:4: Trust in God's power?
How can Ezekiel 26:4 inspire us to trust in God's sovereignty today?

The setting and the verse

“ ‘They will destroy the walls of Tyre and pull down her towers; I will scrape the soil from her and make her a bare rock.’ ” (Ezekiel 26:4)

• Tyre was a fortified, prosperous island city, seemingly untouchable by invading powers.

• Through Ezekiel, God foretold total devastation—an outcome that sounded impossible to human ears.

Fulfillment that proves God’s sovereignty

• Babylon began the assault (586 BC), weakening Tyre’s mainland quarter.

• Centuries later Alexander the Great built a causeway with debris from the old city, literally “scraping the soil” and leaving the island “a bare rock” (332 BC).

• The detailed prophecy came to pass just as spoken, confirming that:

– God rules over history (Isaiah 46:10).

– He watches over His word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12).

What this means for our faith today

• No circumstance—national or personal—lies outside God’s control.

• Prophecies fulfilled with precision assure us every other promise in Scripture will stand (Joshua 21:45).

• When world events feel chaotic, Ezekiel 26:4 reminds us that God directs even the rise and fall of empires (Daniel 2:21).

Living out our trust in the Sovereign God

• Lay present anxieties before Him, confident He is orchestrating outcomes beyond what we can see (Romans 8:28).

• Anchor daily decisions to His unchanging word rather than shifting headlines (Matthew 7:24-25).

• Celebrate His faithfulness by recounting other fulfilled promises—Christ’s resurrection (Luke 24:6-7) or Israel’s restoration (Ezekiel 37:21-22)—strengthening hope for what is still ahead (Revelation 21:5).
