Ezekiel 4:11: Trust God's provision?
How does Ezekiel 4:11 challenge us to trust God's provision in difficult times?

Setting the Scene in Ezekiel 4

- Ezekiel is commanded to act out Jerusalem’s coming siege.

- Verse 11 focuses on his water supply: “You are also to drink water by measure, a sixth of a hin, and you shall drink it from time to time”.

- A sixth of a hin is roughly 0.6 liters—barely enough for daily life—symbolizing the dire conditions the city will face.

The Measured Water: A Picture of Scarcity

- God, not circumstance, sets the exact limit.

- Ezekiel is sustained by strictly limited rations for 390 days (v. 5–6), showing that survival depends on God’s word, not material abundance.

- Like manna in the wilderness (Exodus 16:16–18) and the widow’s jar of oil (1 Kings 17:14), this measured water proves the Lord’s ability to preserve His people through the leanest provisions.

Lessons on Trusting God’s Provision

• God’s directives may look insufficient, yet they are always adequate.

– “My God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

• Obedience unlocks sustaining grace.

– Ezekiel drinks only what God prescribes; the widow pours only what she has; both see divine sufficiency.

• Limited resources refine dependence.

– Scarcity strips false securities and trains hearts to rest in the Giver (Jeremiah 17:7–8).

• God’s care is personal and precise.

– A sixth of a hin is measured to the drop; our Heavenly Father numbers our hairs (Luke 12:6–7).

Living It Out Today

- Hold your present “ration” with open hands, knowing the Lord apportions wisely.

- Replace anxiety with worship; scarcity becomes a stage for God’s faithfulness (Matthew 6:31–33).

- Recall past deliverances—each memory fuels fresh confidence (Psalm 77:11).

- Serve others even from your limited supply; generosity under pressure magnifies the Source (2 Corinthians 9:8).

In what ways can we apply Ezekiel's obedience to our daily spiritual practices?
