In what ways can we see ourselves as part of God's inheritance? Psalm 106:5: “that I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones, rejoice in the joy of Your nation, and share in the glory of Your inheritance.” Seeing Ourselves as His Chosen Ones - Deuteronomy 32:9: “For the LORD’s portion is His people; Jacob is the lot of His inheritance.” - Ephesians 1:4–5: He “chose us in Him before the foundation of the world.” - Through faith in Christ we are grafted into that people (Romans 11:17–18) and counted among “the prosperity of [His] chosen ones.” Rejoicing in the Joy of His Nation - 1 Peter 2:9: believers are “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation.” - Hebrews 12:28: we “receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken.” - Our story joins the larger story of redemption; every victory of God’s people is ours to celebrate. Sharing the Glory of His Inheritance - Romans 8:17: “And if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.” - John 17:22: Jesus has given us the glory the Father gave Him. - Ephesians 1:18: “the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints.” God counts His redeemed people as the treasure that displays His glory. Present Experience, Future Fulfillment - Now: indwelling Spirit, answered prayer, righteousness-peace-joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17). - Yet to come: “an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4). Living Like Heirs Today • Cultivate gratitude—heirs cherish the Father’s gifts (1 Thessalonians 5:18). • Pursue holiness—heirs bear the family likeness (1 John 3:2-3). • Invest in kingdom work—heirs steward family assets (Matthew 6:19-21). • Encourage one another—heirs rejoice together (Hebrews 10:24-25). Psalm 106:5 is not wishful thinking but a settled reality in Christ: we are the Lord’s inheritance, and He is ours forever. |
