How can we grow in knowing God today?
In what ways can we "grow in the knowledge of God" today?

The Anchor Verse

“so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.” (Colossians 1:10)

Rooted in a Living Relationship

• Knowing God is first relational, not merely informational (John 17:3).

• Pursue Him as Father, Shepherd, and Friend—this is the soil where knowledge flourishes.

Immerse Yourself in Scripture

• “All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

• Daily, systematic reading—whole-Bible plans, book-by-book study, or meditating on a single passage—lets God’s thoughts reshape ours (Psalm 1:2-3).

• Memorize and rehearse verses; the Spirit uses stored truth at unexpected moments.

Practice Intentional Obedience

• “Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me… I will reveal Myself to him” (John 14:21).

• Knowledge deepens when truth is lived, not just learned.

• Keep short accounts—confession and repentance keep the line of fellowship clear (1 John 1:9).

Cultivate Ongoing Prayer

• “Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3).

• Blend set times (morning, evening) with throughout-the-day conversation (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

• Listen as well as speak; pause with an open Bible and attentive heart.

Walk in Christ-Centered Community

• “Let us consider how to spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Gather for corporate worship, small-group study, accountability friendships.

• Iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17); the Spirit often teaches us through another believer’s insight or testimony.

Engage in Worship and Celebration

• “Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD… For the LORD is a great God” (Psalm 95:1-3).

• Singing, thanksgiving, and celebrating the Lord’s Supper rehearse His character and works, engraving them on the heart.

Serve Others in Love

• “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works” (Ephesians 2:10).

• Serving showcases God’s nature to us and through us—each act of love becomes a practical classroom (1 John 4:12).

Live Dependent on the Spirit

• “Be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18).

• Ask daily for the Spirit’s control; He guides into all truth (John 16:13) and produces the fruit that reflects Christ (Galatians 5:22-23).

Persevere with an Eternal Lens

• “Our citizenship is in heaven” (Philippians 3:20).

• Keeping eternity in view guards against discouragement and re-centers priorities (2 Corinthians 4:17-18).

Putting It All Together

Growing in the knowledge of God is a Spirit-empowered, whole-life pursuit—heart, mind, and actions moving in concert. As Colossians 1:10 links knowledge with worthy walking and fruitful living, each of these practices becomes an avenue where the Father gladly reveals more of Himself today.

How does Colossians 1:10 connect with John 15:5 about bearing fruit?
