How can we honor God's creation?
What practical steps can we take to honor God's creation as seen here?

The Fourth Day: The Gift of Lights

“God made two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night. He also made the stars… And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.” (Genesis 1:16, 19)

On this day God set time, seasons, and rhythms in place. The heavens still proclaim His order and glory.

Why Honoring Creation Matters

Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”

Psalm 24:1: “The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof.”

Romans 1:20: Creation reveals God’s “eternal power and divine nature.”

Because He openly displays Himself through what He made, honoring creation becomes a direct way to honor Him.

Practical Steps to Honor God’s Creation Today

• Welcome the daily rhythm

– Begin and end each day acknowledging the sunrise and sunset as God-given markers (Psalm 104:19).

– Schedule devotional moments around these natural “bookends.”

• Steward resources faithfully

– Reduce waste, recycle, and conserve energy as acts of obedience (Genesis 2:15).

– Choose products and practices that bless, not burden, the earth.

• Celebrate Sabbath rest for people and land

– Guard one day a week for worship and refreshment.

– Allow gardens, fields, and even household appliances a break (Leviticus 25:4).

• Enjoy and proclaim the heavens

– Spend time under the night sky; let stargazing prompt praise.

– Share astronomical discoveries with children, tying them back to Genesis 1.

• Mark seasons with gratitude

– Hold harvest meals, spring thanksgivings, and solstice praise nights to remember God’s faithful ordering of time (Genesis 1:14).

• Care for living creatures

– Treat pets and livestock with kindness (Proverbs 12:10).

– Support habitats and responsible farming; feed backyard birds (Matthew 6:26).

• Participate in local restoration

– Join neighborhood clean-ups, tree-plantings, or river-care projects.

– See each effort as cultivating the garden God entrusted to humanity.

• Teach the next generation

– Read creation passages outdoors.

– Encourage children to keep “creation journals” recording God’s wonders.

Scriptures to Fuel Our Commitment

Genesis 1:14-18 – God’s purpose for sun, moon, and stars.

Psalm 8:3-4 – Humility before the vast heavens.

Isaiah 40:26 – “Lift up your eyes… Who created these?”

Colossians 1:16 – All things made through and for Christ.

Living It Out Day by Day
