How can we honor God's name today?
In what ways can we ensure God's name is "held in high honor" today?

Setting the Scene: Acts 19:17

“When this became known to everyone living in Ephesus—both Jews and Greeks—they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.”

Why the Name Matters

Exodus 20:7 reminds us, “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.”

Psalm 111:9 affirms, “Holy and awesome is His name.”

• Jesus teaches us to pray, “Hallowed be Your name” (Matthew 6:9).

God’s name embodies His character, reputation, and authority; honoring it is an act of worship and allegiance.

Ways to Honor God’s Name Today

• Intentional Reverence in Speech

– Refuse casual, irreverent, or joking misuse of His name.

– Replace empty exclamations with words that genuinely glorify Him (Ephesians 4:29).

• Consistent Obedience in Daily Life

– Live so that others “see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

– A lifestyle of holiness validates the gospel we proclaim (1 Peter 1:15–16).

• Truthful Representation of Scripture

– Speak God’s Word accurately, never twisting it for personal gain (2 Timothy 2:15).

– Stand firm on its literal truth when cultural winds blow in the opposite direction.

• Authentic Worship

– Engage heart, mind, and body when gathered with believers (Psalm 95:6).

– Guard against lip service; honor Him “in spirit and truth” (John 4:24).

• Bold but Humble Gospel Witness

– Share Christ openly, trusting the Spirit to bring conviction as in Ephesus (Romans 1:16).

– Make Jesus—not ourselves—the focal point of every testimony.

• Integrity in Work and Relationships

– “Whatever you do…do it in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17).

– Keep promises, pay debts, and treat others with fairness to avoid bringing reproach on His name (Proverbs 22:1).

• Radical Repentance and Public Renunciation of Sin

– Like the Ephesian believers who burned their sorcery scrolls (Acts 19:19), publicly forsake practices that compete with Christ’s lordship.

– Celebrate baptism and testimonies that showcase God’s transforming power.

• Reverent Use of Technology and Media

– Post, like, and share content that honors Christ; delete what does not.

– Let online presence mirror an offline life submitted to Him (Philippians 4:8).

• Generous Stewardship

– Give joyfully to advance His kingdom (2 Corinthians 9:7).

– Handle resources transparently so “the ministry will not be discredited” (2 Corinthians 6:3).

• Perseverance in Suffering

– Endure trials “so that the proof of your faith…may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:7).

– Respond with grace, causing observers to honor God (1 Peter 2:12).
