How can we honor all believers?
In what ways can we ensure we honor all believers as God commands?

The Heart of the Command

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of My Father in heaven.” (Matthew 18:10)

• “Little ones” refers to every believer who has humbled himself to trust Christ (cf. Matthew 18:3–4).

• Despising is any attitude or action that treats a fellow Christian as insignificant.

• Because their angels behold the Father’s face, heaven itself watches how we handle God’s children.

Why It Matters to Heaven

• Christ so identifies with His people that “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me” (Matthew 25:40).

• “The parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable” (1 Corinthians 12:22). When one believer is slighted, the whole body hurts (1 Corinthians 12:26).

• Our devotion to honoring one another showcases Christ’s love to the world (John 13:35).

How We Can Actively Honor Every Believer

Value and Esteem

• “Outdo yourselves in honoring one another” (Romans 12:10). Speak well of brothers and sisters—in public and private.

• Refuse gossip, slander, and dismissive humor. “Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths” (Ephesians 4:29).

Guard Against Partiality

• “Do not show favoritism” (James 2:1). Welcome rich and poor, mature and new believers, all ethnicities, all ages.

• Practically: sit with someone new at worship, invite the overlooked into conversation, rotate small-group leadership.

Serve With Humility

• “In humility consider others more important than yourselves” (Philippians 2:3–4).

• Use your gifts for their benefit:

– Teach with clarity, not ego.

– Give anonymously and generously.

– Offer practical help—meals, rides, childcare—without expectation of return.

Protect the Vulnerable

• “Help the weak, and be patient with everyone” (1 Thessalonians 5:14).

• Stand up for believers who are marginalized or mistreated. Intervene kindly when you see bullying, belittling, or exclusion.

Cultivate Hospitality

• “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers” (Hebrews 13:2).

• Open your home and table. Shared meals break down barriers and build family-like bonds in Christ.

Intercede Faithfully

• Pray by name for those in your church and beyond. Intercession reminds us how precious each believer is to God (Colossians 1:9–10).

Encourage Consistently

• “Encourage one another daily” (Hebrews 3:13).

• Send notes, texts, or calls that highlight evidences of grace you see in someone’s life.

Practice Restorative Discipline

• When sin surfaces, follow Matthew 18:15–17 with gentleness, aiming for restoration, never humiliation.

Give Sacrificially

• “Let us do good to everyone, and especially to the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10).

• Direct finances, time, and energy to mission teams, benevolence funds, and believers in crisis.

Live in Reverent Awe

• “Treat everyone with high regard: love the brotherhood of believers, fear God” (1 Peter 2:17).

• Remember: each Christian is someone for whom Christ shed His blood (Acts 20:28). Honor flows naturally when that truth grips the heart.

How does Matthew 18:10 connect with Psalm 91:11 about angelic protection?
