How can we pursue God's justice locally?
In what ways can we seek God's justice in our community?

Setting the Foundation: The God Who Avenges

“O LORD, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth.” (Psalm 94:1)

Recognizing the Nature of Divine Justice

• God’s justice is righteous, impartial, and timely—never capricious (Deuteronomy 32:4).

• He alone possesses the right to avenge wrongs (Romans 12:19).

• Because Scripture is accurate and literal, these truths shape how we act: we do not invent justice; we submit to God’s revealed standard.

Ways We Seek God’s Justice Locally

• Persistent, believing prayer

– Call on the Lord to “shine forth” against evil in the neighborhood, schools, and government (Psalm 94:1; 1 Timothy 2:1-2).

• Public proclamation of truth

– Share the gospel that confronts sin and offers redemption (Romans 1:16).

– Speak truthfully in daily conversations, resisting gossip and falsehood (Ephesians 4:25).

• Advocacy for righteous laws and policies

– Engage respectfully with civic leaders, urging them to uphold God-honoring standards (Proverbs 14:34).

– Vote conscientiously, seeking officials who protect life, marriage, and religious liberty (Psalm 94:20-21).

• Defense of the vulnerable

– “Learn to do right; seek justice, relieve the oppressed” (Isaiah 1:17).

– Support crisis-pregnancy centers, foster care, anti-trafficking initiatives, and ministries rescuing the persecuted (Proverbs 31:8-9).

• Practical generosity

– Meet tangible needs: food drives, job-training, debt relief (James 2:15-17).

– Prioritize widows and orphans, fulfilling “pure and undefiled religion” (James 1:27).

• Peacemaking and mediation

– Step between feuding neighbors, urging reconciliation rooted in Christ’s forgiveness (Matthew 5:9; Colossians 3:13).

• Personal example of integrity

– Conduct business honestly, pay fair wages, and refuse bribes (Leviticus 19:35-36; Proverbs 11:1).

Guarding Our Hearts as We Pursue Justice

• Reject personal vengeance; trust God to repay (Romans 12:19).

• Keep anger righteous, not sinful (Ephesians 4:26).

• Remember our own need for mercy, extending grace while standing firm (Matthew 7:3-5).

Practices for Ongoing Faithfulness

• Regular scripture intake to align motives (Psalm 119:105).

• Fellowship with believers who encourage steadfastness (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Continual self-examination and confession to stay usable vessels (Psalm 139:23-24).

• Celebrating victories of justice to fuel hope and perseverance (Psalm 126:3).
