How can we reflect God's glory?
In what ways can God's glory be reflected through our actions and words?

Arise and Shine: The Call to Reflect God’s Glory

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.” (Isaiah 60:1)

• “Arise” calls for deliberate, visible action.

• “Shine” points to a continual, outward radiance that originates in God’s own presence within us.

• His glory is not a private treasure; it is meant to illuminate the world around us.

Our Actions as Mirrors of His Radiance

• Visible Good Works — “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

• Everyday Obedience — “Whatever you do, in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Colossians 3:17)

• Compassionate Service — “Pure and undefiled religion… is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress.” (James 1:27)

• Moral Integrity — “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)

• Pursuit of Justice — “Learn to do right; seek justice, correct the oppressor.” (Isaiah 1:17)

Our Words as Beacons of Light

• Truthfulness — “Speak truth each one to his neighbor.” (Ephesians 4:25)

• Grace-Filled Speech — “Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building up.” (Ephesians 4:29)

• Gospel Witness — “Always be prepared to give a defense to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you.” (1 Peter 3:15)

• Encouragement — “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

• Thanksgiving — “Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Practical Steps to Shine Daily

1. Start each day in Scripture, allowing His light to fill you before you step out.

2. Keep a gratitude list to cultivate a heart that readily praises Him.

3. Listen attentively to others; reflecting His glory includes valuing every person.

4. Serve in simple, tangible ways—carry groceries, send a note, volunteer.

5. Guard integrity when no one sees; the hidden life fuels the public witness.

6. Use creative gifts (music, art, hospitality) to display His beauty.

7. Speak blessings out loud; words shape atmospheres.

The Result: Darkness Dispels

“For behold, darkness covers the earth, and thick darkness is over the peoples; but the LORD will rise upon you, and His glory will appear over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.” (Isaiah 60:2-3)

When God’s people arise and shine, gloom lifts, hearts turn, and Christ is exalted. His glory breaks through—as surely, literally, and powerfully today as when Isaiah first proclaimed it.

How does Isaiah 60:1 connect with John 8:12 about Jesus as the light?
