How can we stay true to God's covenant?
In what ways can we ensure we remain faithful to God's covenant today?

Setting the Scene: Hosea 1:9

“Then the LORD said, ‘Name him Lo-ammi, for you are not My people, and I am not your God.’”

The Covenant Crisis

• Israel’s idolatry and injustice triggered this stark verdict.

• Yet even here God signals mercy (v. 10): the door to restoration remains open.

How the New Testament Reverses the Verdict

1 Peter 2:10 echoes Hosea and celebrates believers now called “My people.”

Hebrews 8:10 shows the new covenant writing God’s law on our hearts.

Staying Faithful Today

1. Know your identity

• Remember you belong to God (1 Peter 2:9-10).

2. Saturate life with Scripture

• Hiding His word guards the heart (Psalm 119:11; James 1:22).

3. Obey out of love

• “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” (John 14:15)

4. Pursue holiness

• Reject cultural compromise (Romans 12:2).

5. Practice ongoing repentance

• Confession restores fellowship (1 John 1:9).

6. Stay in covenant community

• Spur one another on (Hebrews 10:24-25).

7. Share the covenant invitation

• Make disciples who once were “Lo-ammi” (Matthew 28:19-20).

Hope When We Fail

“I will heal their apostasy; I will freely love them.” (Hosea 14:4)

Because Christ bore our unfaithfulness, the label “Not My People” is forever reversed for those who trust Him. Hold fast to that grace and live covenant-true every day.

How does Hosea 1:9 connect to Romans 9:25-26 about God's mercy?
