In what ways can we submit to God's appointed King in our lives? Setting the Verse in Context Psalm 2:6: “I have installed My King on Zion, upon My holy mountain.” God Himself establishes the King. The rest of Psalm 2 shows that this King is the Son who will rule the nations (vv. 7–12), ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ (Acts 4:25-28). Recognizing the King’s Sovereignty • Matthew 28:18—“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” • Philippians 2:9-11—every knee will bow and every tongue confess His lordship. Submission begins by agreeing with God’s declaration: Jesus is already enthroned. We respond by: – Bowing our hearts in reverent awe. – Rejecting any notion that we govern our own lives. Practicing Personal Submission • Luke 6:46—“Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ but not do what I say?” • John 14:15—“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” Daily habits that yield to His rule: – Start the day asking, “What does my King desire?” – Read Scripture as royal commands, not mere suggestions. – Welcome the Spirit’s conviction instead of resisting it. Submission Expressed in Daily Choices Romans 12:1—offer your bodies as living sacrifices. 2 Corinthians 5:15—live no longer for yourself but for Him. Practical arenas: • Time—schedule around worship, fellowship, and service. • Money—tithe first; view all income as the King’s property. • Morality—flee anything that opposes His holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:3-7). • Work—labor “as unto the Lord” (Colossians 3:23-24). Submission Expressed in Relationships • Ephesians 5:21—submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. • Hebrews 12:9—submit to the Father’s loving discipline. Ways this looks: – Honor spiritual leaders (Hebrews 13:17). – Forgive as He forgave you (Ephesians 4:32). – Serve family members sacrificially, mirroring the King’s servant-heart (Mark 10:45). Submission Expressed in Worship and Witness • 1 Peter 2:9—proclaim the virtues of Him who called you. • Psalm 2:11—“Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.” Live as royal ambassadors: – Gather faithfully with His people; public worship declares His reign. – Speak of His salvation; every testimony extends His claim over hearts. – Sing praises that exalt His majesty, shaping both mind and emotion in loyal devotion. Living in the Hope of His Future Reign Colossians 1:13—already transferred into His kingdom. Revelation 11:15—“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ.” Our present submission anticipates the day His rule is visible everywhere. Persevere, knowing the King we obey now will soon be universally acknowledged. |
