How can we trust Christ's cleansing?
In what ways can we rely on Christ's cleansing instead of our own?

Job’s Cry for Purity

“Even if I wash myself with snow and cleanse my hands with lye, yet You would plunge me into the pit, and my own clothes would despise me.” (Job 9:30-31)

Why Our Own “Snow and Lye” Cannot Remove Sin

• Snow water—pure in appearance—melts into muddy runoff.

• Lye—powerful cleanser—still cannot touch the stain of guilt lodged in the heart.

Isaiah 64:6: “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags.”

Romans 3:23: “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

• Conclusion: sincere effort, religious ritual, moral reform, or emotional remorse never reach the depth of the problem—sin nature itself.

Christ’s Cleansing: Complete, Permanent, Free

1 John 1:7—“The blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

Hebrews 9:14—His blood “will cleanse our consciences from dead works to serve the living God.”

Ephesians 5:25-26—He “gave Himself up” for the church “to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word.”

Revelation 7:14—Believers “have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”

Key truth: What Job longed for is fulfilled in Christ—an outward and inward purification that God fully accepts.

How to Rely on His Work Daily

1. Admit the futility of self-fixing.

2. Confess specific sin to the Lord (1 John 1:9).

3. Trust the once-for-all sacrifice of Christ (Hebrews 10:10, 14).

4. Immerse your mind in Scripture—the Spirit applies the “washing of water by the word” (Ephesians 5:26).

5. Cling to gospel promises when accusations resurface (Romans 8:1).

6. Replace self-reliance with Spirit-dependence—walking by the Spirit so you “will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).

7. Participate in the ongoing family “foot-washing” of fellowship and mutual encouragement (John 13:10; Hebrews 10:24-25).

Liberating Results of Trusting His Cleansing

• Freedom from condemnation—Romans 8:1.

• Nearness to God with a clean conscience—Hebrews 10:22.

• Joyful obedience fueled by gratitude—Psalm 51:12-13.

• Bold witness—1 Peter 3:15-16, living with “a clear conscience.”

• Steady hope for final glory—Jude 24, He “is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless.”
