In what ways can we trust God with our own "inheritance" today? Our Anchor Verse “into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you.” (1 Peter 1:4) Why His Promise of Inheritance Is Rock–Solid • Imperishable – it cannot be used up or ruined (1 Peter 1:4) • Undefiled – untouched by sin or corruption (Revelation 21:27) • Unfading – it will never shrink, tarnish, or lose value (Matthew 6:19-20) • Reserved – God has already set it aside under your name (John 14:2-3) • Guarded by His power – “who through faith are shielded by God’s power” (1 Peter 1:5) What This Inheritance Includes • Eternal life and sonship – Romans 8:16-17 • The indwelling Spirit as a down payment – Ephesians 1:13-14 • A redeemed, glorified body – Philippians 3:20-21 • Full access to Christ’s kingdom and rewards – 2 Timothy 4:8; Revelation 22:12 • Even the new earth itself—“the meek shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5) How to Trust God With Your Inheritance Today 1. Rest in His guarantee – “God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear… so He confirmed it with an oath.” (Hebrews 6:17) 2. Hold earthly assets loosely – “You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you yourselves had a better and permanent possession.” (Hebrews 10:34) 3. Keep investments eternal – Practice generous giving; every act of kingdom generosity transfers treasure to heaven (Luke 12:33-34). 4. Draw identity from sonship, not stuff – “The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; You have made my lot secure.” (Psalm 16:5) 5. Live expectantly – “Set your hope fully on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:13) When Circumstances Threaten Confidence • Remember past faithfulness – “Not one word of all the good promises… failed.” (Joshua 21:45) • Speak His promises aloud. Scripture strengthens faith (Romans 10:17). • Invite trusted believers to remind you of what cannot be lost (Hebrews 3:13). • View trials as inheritance-prep: temporary heat that refines faith (1 Peter 1:6-7). The Bottom Line God wrote your name on an inheritance no market crash, government policy, illness, or failure can touch. Because He guards it, you can risk generosity now, walk through loss with calm, and face tomorrow with unshakable hope. |
