How should God's past victories encourage us in facing current challenges? Hearing Rahab’s Testimony “For we have heard how the LORD dried up the waters of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan, whom you devoted to destruction.” – Joshua 2:10 Why These Words Matter • Rahab, a pagan Canaanite, is convinced of God’s supremacy simply by the reports of His past interventions. • Scripture treats these events as literal history, grounding faith in what God actually did. • If God’s victories could melt the courage of Jericho (Joshua 2:11), they can surely strengthen ours today. God’s Track Record on Display 1. Red Sea Rescue – Exodus 14:21-22 “The Israelites went through the sea on dry ground.” 2. Victories over Sihon and Og – Numbers 21:21-35 Two entrenched kings fell before an untrained, wandering nation because the LORD fought for them. 3. Jordan River Crossing – Joshua 4:23 “For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over.” 4. Jericho’s Collapse – Joshua 6:20 Walls fall, trumpets sound, God wins. What These Victories Say about God • He is the same God now as then (Hebrews 13:8). • He fights for His people (Deuteronomy 1:30). • No enemy is too large, no obstacle too fixed (Romans 8:31). Facing Today’s Challenges with Yesterday’s Evidence • God’s past faithfulness is proof of His present reliability. • Remembering breeds courage: “I will remember the works of the LORD” (Psalm 77:11-12). • Scripture was written “so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope” (Romans 15:4). Practical Ways to Recall and Rely • Keep a personal “Ebenezer” list—times God has come through for you. • Read narrative passages aloud; hear the victory again. • When anxiety rises, answer it with a past miracle: “God split seas; He can handle this meeting.” • Share testimonies in community. Rahab heard, believed, and was saved; your story could bolster another’s faith. Scripture Snapshots to Carry Forward • 1 Samuel 17:37 – “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion… will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” • 2 Chronicles 20:12 – “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” • Philippians 1:6 – “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” Living It Out • Identify one current challenge. • Match it with a specific past victory of God in Scripture. • Speak that victory over the challenge daily until faith replaces fear. Yesterday’s triumphs are today’s confidence. The God who dried up seas still makes a way where there is none. |
