How can we trust God to "divide" obstacles in our lives today? Key Verse “Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove back the sea with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. So the waters were divided.” (Exodus 14:21) A Scene of Human Impossibility • Israel had an impassable sea before them and Pharaoh’s army behind them. • No bridge, no boats, and no conceivable human solution. • God’s literal act of dividing the Red Sea demonstrated His power to intervene when circumstances lock us in. What God Did Then • Sent a mighty east wind—His chosen means to open a path (v. 21). • Held the waters “like a wall on their right and on their left” (v. 22). • Brought the entire nation through safely, then closed the sea on the pursuing army (vv. 26–28). • Result: Israel saw “the great power that the LORD had exercised” and their faith deepened (v. 31). Why We Can Trust Him Now • His character never changes (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8). • His Word is reliable and historically accurate; the same God who literally parted water still rules nature and nations. • He delights to act where human effort ends, making His glory unmistakable (2 Corinthians 1:8-10). • Every obstacle answers to His sovereign will (Psalm 115:3). Living It Out 1. Remember previous deliverances. • “I will remember the works of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old” (Psalm 77:11). 2. Obey the step He has already revealed. • Israel moved forward only after God said, “Tell the Israelites to go forward” (Exodus 14:15). 3. Stand firm in faith instead of panic. • “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the LORD’s salvation” (Exodus 14:13). 4. Expect God’s timing, not yours. • The sea parted “all that night”—an extended process before dry ground appeared. 5. Testify when He acts. • Sharing His faithfulness strengthens others and honors Him (Psalm 105:1-2). Additional Scriptures for Reinforcement • Joshua 3:15-17 — God divides the Jordan River for a new generation. • Isaiah 43:16, 19 — “He who makes a way in the sea… I will make a way in the wilderness.” • Psalm 78:13 — “He split the sea and brought them through.” • Romans 8:31 — “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Encouragement to Take the Next Step The same Lord who literally pushed back the Red Sea stands ready to carve a path through today’s barriers—financial strains, broken relationships, daunting diagnoses, or spiritual strongholds. Trust Him to divide what blocks your way, step forward in obedience, and watch impossible waters turn into dry ground. |
