How can acknowledging "every good thing" in us enhance our Christian witness? The heartbeat of Philemon 1:6 “I pray that your partnership in the faith may become effective as you fully acknowledge every good thing that is ours in Christ.” (Philemon 1:6) Paul links two realities: • Partnership in the faith (our shared witness) • Acknowledging every good thing (our awareness of God’s work inside us) Because Scripture is accurate and literal, we can trust that the more clearly we see what Christ has placed within us, the more powerfully our testimony will resonate. Every good thing—what exactly is Paul talking about? • New life: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17) • Spiritual blessings: “He has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 1:3) • Divine power for godly living: “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness.” (2 Peter 1:3) • Fruit of the Spirit growing within: “Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23) All these gifts are literal facts of our new identity. Acknowledgement turns faith into visible impact When we name and celebrate what God has done, several things happen: • Confidence replaces timidity—knowing Christ’s work in us frees us to speak boldly (Acts 4:13). • Gratitude shines—thankful believers naturally draw curiosity (Colossians 3:15-17). • Authenticity grows—we testify from personal experience, not theory (1 John 1:3). • Holiness becomes credible—the world sees real transformation, not empty claims (Matthew 5:16). • Hope is offered—people recognize the same grace is available to them (1 Peter 3:15). Practical ways to keep the good in view • Start each day reciting verses that name your new identity (Ephesians 1; Romans 8). • Share short testimonies of recent answers to prayer when conversation allows. • Keep a journal of “good things” you notice—growth in patience, victory over sin, fresh compassion. • Speak life over other believers; call out the Christ-likeness you observe in them. • Serve from your strengths—use the gifts God has placed in you (1 Peter 4:10-11). • End the day thanking the Lord for at least three evidences of His work. As we consistently acknowledge every good thing in us that is ours in Christ, our words and lives align, and the watching world gains a clear, compelling picture of the living Savior. |
