How can we avoid doing "evil in the sight of the LORD" today? The same danger faces us today. Recognize the Unchanging Standard • God, not culture, defines good and evil (Isaiah 5:20). • His commands remain binding: “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5) • Measure every attitude, choice, and trend by Scripture, not personal preference or social consensus. Guard the Heart • Sin begins internally before it shows externally (Mark 7:20-23). • “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23) • Regularly examine motives; confess and turn from the smallest compromise. Stay Anchored in the Word • “I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” (Psalm 119:11) • Daily reading keeps truth fresh and counters the lies of the age. • Memorize key passages that address your specific temptations. Walk by the Spirit • “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16) • Yield moment-by-moment control to the Spirit—ask for His strength before, not after, temptation strikes. • Cultivate the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) as the positive alternative to sin. Live in Accountable Community • Isolation breeds secrecy; secrecy breeds sin. • “Exhort one another daily…so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” (Hebrews 3:13) • Join a Bible-teaching church, seek mentors, and invite honest questions about your walk. Remember What the LORD Has Done • Israel forgot past deliverances and chased new gods; remembrance fuels faithfulness. • Regularly recount answered prayers, victories over sin, and the cross itself (1 Corinthians 11:24-26). Embrace Daily Repentance • Repentance is not a one-time event but an ongoing posture (1 John 1:9). • Keep short accounts with God; respond quickly when the Spirit convicts. Stand Firm in Spiritual Warfare • “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11) • Use each piece—truth, righteousness, readiness, faith, salvation, the Word, and prayer—to resist evil. • Remember God’s promise of escape: “God is faithful…He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13) Aim for Holiness, Not Mere Avoidance • God calls us to more than just avoiding evil: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16) • Pursue Christlikeness proactively—serve, give, worship, witness. • The closer we cling to Him, the further we stand from sin.
