How to be righteous before God?
What actions can we take to ensure we are "righteous" in God's eyes?

Our Key Verse: Romans 3:22

“And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction.”

Righteousness: God’s Gift, Our Response

• God declares us righteous the moment we trust Christ (Genesis 15:6; 2 Corinthians 5:21).

• Our daily choices either confirm or cloud that standing. Here’s how to walk in a way that pleases Him:

Place Faith in Christ Alone

• Recognize you can’t earn righteousness (Ephesians 2:8-9).

• Rest in what Jesus finished at the cross.

• Keep the gospel central to guard against pride or despair.

Live a Lifestyle of Repentance and Confession

• “Repent, then, and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped away” (Acts 3:19).

• Quickly agree with God about sin—no excuses (1 John 1:9).

• Celebrate His promised cleansing and move forward in freedom.

Obey Because You Love Him

• Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15).

• Obedience doesn’t earn salvation; it proves genuine faith (James 2:17).

• Start with clear commands: love God, love neighbor, flee immorality, speak truth.

Pursue Holiness Through Scripture and Prayer

• “All Scripture is God-breathed… for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

• Daily intake of the Word renews your mind (Psalm 119:9, 11).

• Prayer turns information into transformation—ask the Spirit to apply what you read.

Walk in Biblical Community

• “Let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Meet regularly with believers for worship, accountability, and encouragement.

• Isolation weakens; fellowship sharpens.

Practice Justice, Mercy, and Humility

• “Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).

• Serve the needy, forgive quickly, treat every person with dignity (Matthew 5:7; 1 John 3:17-18).

• These outward actions mirror the righteousness you’ve received.

Rely on the Holy Spirit’s Power

• “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).

• Ask Him to produce His fruit in you—love, joy, peace, and the rest (Galatians 5:22-23).

• Moment-by-moment dependence replaces striving with strength.

Daily Checklist

□ Trust Christ’s finished work.

□ Confess sin immediately.

□ Choose obedience out of love.

□ Feed on Scripture, pray it back.

□ Stay connected to church family.

□ Serve others with justice and mercy.

□ Lean on the Spirit, not self.

Living this way doesn’t earn righteousness—it displays the righteous standing God already credited to you through faith in His Son.
