What steps can we take to deepen our understanding of Jesus as the Son of Man? Setting the Scene “Who is He, Lord,” he said, “that I may believe in Him?” (John 9:36) The man healed of blindness wants to know the Son of Man so he can place his faith rightly. His simple request outlines the pathway for every disciple who desires a deeper understanding of Jesus in this unique, majestic role. Step 1 – Admit Our Need for Revelation • Like the healed man, confess, “I need You to show me who You are.” • Psalm 25:4 – “Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths.” • Humble dependence is the doorway through which clearer sight comes. Step 2 – Listen to Jesus’ Self-Revelation • Immediately after John 9:36, Jesus answers, “You have seen Him; in fact, He is the One speaking with you.” (v. 37) • Trace Jesus’ own descriptions of “the Son of Man”: – Luke 19:10 – He came “to seek and to save the lost.” – Mark 2:10 – He has “authority on earth to forgive sins.” – Matthew 8:20 – He walks in humility and suffering. • Read these passages aloud, letting Scripture define the title. Step 3 – Connect the Prophetic Backdrop • Daniel 7:13-14 pictures “One like a son of man” receiving everlasting dominion. • Revelation 1:13 picks up the same imagery, showing Jesus in glory. • Meditate on how the Gospels anchor that heavenly figure in the earthly Jesus. Step 4 – Respond With Worship and Faith • John 9:38 – “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped Him. • Knowledge matures only when it moves from intellect to adoration. • Set aside time to praise Jesus specifically as the Son of Man who rules and redeems. Step 5 – Walk in the Light He Gives • John 9:39 – “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind may see.” • Apply each new insight: repent where the light exposes sin; obey where it directs action. • 1 John 1:7 – “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship…” Step 6 – Share the Testimony • John 9:25 – “One thing I do know: I was blind, but now I see!” • Telling others reinforces truth in our own hearts and magnifies the Son of Man before the world. • Acts 4:20 – “For we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Daily Practices to Keep Growing ▪ Read a Gospel chapter each day, highlighting every “Son of Man” reference. ▪ Memorize Daniel 7:13-14 and John 9:37-38. ▪ Journal ways Jesus’ humanity and divine authority meet personal needs. ▪ Meet weekly with another believer to discuss fresh discoveries. |
